A story from Cortelume
The Lemon House at the End of the Lane
At the end of the lane, beneath the lemon trees, there is a house everyone knows but few truly enter.

The shutters had swollen shut over winter, and it took two tries with a shoulder before the morning finally came pouring into the kitchen - lemon-yellow light, and the smell of a grove that had clearly not waited for anyone's permission to bloom.
This is the house at the end of the lane in Cortelume: small, a little crooked, and ringed by more lemon trees than any one household could reasonably use. Which is, as it turns out, exactly the kind of problem a good neighbour is happy to help solve.
By the second morning there were figs on the doorstep. By the fourth, a note. By the end of the week, an open invitation to a table that was, technically, still being unpacked.
