Weekly and monthly resets keep everyday digital clutter under control.
A Seasonal Digital Reset creates space for the larger areas that are easy to postpone.
At the beginning or end of each season, set aside one to two hours. Choose the sections most relevant to you.
The entire reset does not need to be completed in one session.
1. Review Current Files
Check active projects, documents awaiting action, temporary folders, downloads, desktop items and duplicate working files.
Move completed material to the correct archive. Delete temporary exports and obsolete versions where appropriate.
2. Review Photographs
Select seasonal highlights. Delete obvious duplicates. Process screenshots and information photographs. Create or update relevant albums. Confirm backup settings.
3. Review Apps and Software
Ask: which apps were used this season? Which no longer suit current routines? Are several apps performing the same function? Are there subscriptions attached to unused services?
Remove what is no longer required.
4. Review Digital Subscriptions
Check cloud storage, software, streaming, news, creative tools, fitness or wellbeing apps, and professional services.
Decide whether each one remains useful, correctly priced and suitable for the coming season.
5. Review Account Security
Check multi-factor authentication, recovery email and telephone details, old devices, shared access, inactive accounts, password-manager entries and security alerts.
Use secure and appropriate methods rather than recording passwords in an ordinary note or reset document.
6. Review Social Media
Ask: which accounts inspire, inform or connect me? Which consistently create comparison, irritation or noise? Which no longer reflect my interests? Which platforms do I actually want to use?
Unfollow, mute or leave where appropriate. The purpose is to curate your attention, not to make a judgement about other people.
7. Review Bookmarks and Saved Content
Delete expired links, duplicated recipes, outdated articles, shopping items no longer wanted, and resources that have never been revisited.
Organise retained bookmarks into a small number of useful folders.
8. Review Digital Habits
Reflect on morning phone use, evening screen time, notification checking, unplanned browsing, online shopping, social-media use, and work communication outside agreed hours.
Choose one habit to adjust for the coming season.
9. Prepare for the Next Season
Update travel folders, seasonal plans, home-maintenance files, financial documents, creative-project folders, photograph albums, and reading or viewing lists.
Remove information tied to plans that are no longer relevant.

Digital spaces change with everyday life.
A seasonal reset allows them to reflect what matters now rather than everything that mattered once.
