Guests are arriving soon. The home is being lived in. There are dishes, bags, cushions, post and unfinished tasks.

The One-Hour Pre-Guest Reset focuses only on the areas that will affect the gathering. Use a timer. Do not begin detailed organising. Do not open cupboards unless something must be put away.

The aim is not perfection. It is readiness.

Minutes 0–10

Gather and Remove

Take one basket or container through the guest areas. Collect unrelated paperwork, clothing, chargers, children’s items, work materials, personal products, and objects belonging elsewhere.

Move the basket to a private room for later processing. Do not use this as a permanent method - return the items after the gathering.

Minutes 10–20

Reset the Entrance

Clear the main route. Provide space for coats, shoes where relevant, bags and umbrellas.

Check the door area, entrance lighting, visible post and the doormat. The entrance creates the first impression, but it also needs to function.

Minutes 20–30

Reset the Bathroom

Clean or check the toilet, basin, mirror and floor where needed. Place out a clean hand towel, soap, toilet paper and check the waste bin.

Remove highly personal items from visible surfaces.

Minutes 30–40

Reset the Kitchen

Empty the sink. Load or stack dishes neatly. Clear the main worktop. Remove rubbish. Wipe visible surfaces.

Create space for drinks, serving and used plates. A functional kitchen is more important than a fully polished one.

Minutes 40–50

Reset the Gathering Room

Straighten cushions, blankets, chairs and curtains. Clear the coffee table, dining table and visible side surfaces.

Adjust furniture if needed for conversation and movement.

Minutes 50–60

Finish the Atmosphere

Switch on lamps. Adjust room temperature. Start the playlist. Place water and glasses. Prepare the first drink. Light candles safely where appropriate.

Check the view from the doorway. Then stop.
