Many mornings are lost not to a lack of time, but to a lack of sequence - moving between tasks without a clear order, doubling back, and feeling behind before the day has really begun.
The Calm Morning Preparation is a fixed ten-minute sequence. It does not require waking earlier - it requires following the same order each time, so the morning feels steady rather than improvised.
Minute 1
Open the kitchen - a curtain or blind, a window if the weather allows, and the lights suited to the season. This single minute sets the tone for the rest of the sequence.
Minutes 2-3
Start the kettle or coffee, then begin the breakfast base - yoghurt into a bowl, bread into the toaster, eggs into the pan. Starting both at once means neither is waiting on the other.
Minutes 4-5
Prepare the seasonal element while the base finishes - slice fruit, spoon out a prepared compote, or warm whatever the season calls for.
Minute 6
Add substance - nuts, seeds, cheese or egg - so the breakfast has enough to carry the morning.
Minutes 7-8
Finish the drink - pour, add milk or sweetness as preferred, and let it sit somewhere it will still be warm when the plate is ready.
Minute 9
Assemble the plate - bring the base, substance and seasonal element together, and add a small finishing touch.
Minute 10
Sit down. This final minute matters as much as the nine before it - a breakfast eaten standing at the counter undoes much of the calm the sequence was meant to create.
The Low-Energy Version
On a genuinely low-energy morning, the sequence can shrink without being abandoned - skip the seasonal element and the plating, keep the drink and one substantial base, and still take the final minute to sit down.
A shortened version that still ends with sitting down is more valuable than a full version rushed through standing up.

The value of this sequence is not the exact minute count.
It is having a fixed order to follow, so the morning has a shape before decisions have to be made.
