Tonight's Girl Dinner

Dinner without the performance of dinner. Girl Dinner at Essy's isn't a recipe category. It's dinner without the performance of dinner. Something hot, something crunchy, leftovers, noodles, cheese, a snack plate - whatever sounds particularly good when 6 PM arrives.

No rules. No nutritional virtue signalling. No requirement for everything on the plate to technically belong together.

A cosy, lived-in spread for Girl Dinner: a bowl of ramen with soft-boiled egg, gyoza, popcorn, pickles, cashews, a cheese and charcuterie board, crisps, cucumber and dip, all laid out on a wooden coffee table with a lit candle, a remote control and a cat asleep on a blanket in the background.

Sometimes it's Buldak and gyoza. Sometimes it's apparently an entire pan of premium make-up.

The Buldak One

For nights when "something comforting" means noodles hot enough to make your nose run.

The Can't-Be-Bothered One

Knorr pasta pesto. That's it. That's dinner.

There are nights for homemade soup. There are also nights when ten minutes already feels ambitious.
