The January Desk Sheet

Six small resets for a calmer return to ordinary winter life.

3 min read

January reset desk scene with a printable planning sheet, coffee, books and winter details.

A one-page checklist for the whole post-Christmas reset: close December, restore everyday function, look at the money once, book what sells out, plan the next three months and put something lovely back.

Work through it in one sitting, or one box at a time. It accompanies The January Reset, which explains each step. For the full quarterly review, use The Seasonal Life Admin Checklist instead.

Close: what December left behind

Put December away properly.

  • Photograph festive styling worth recreating
  • Pack decorations logically
  • Sort wrapping paper, ribbon and cards
  • Give new gifts a home
  • Gather returns
  • Let go of broken festive items

Clear: restore everyday function

Get the house and your desktop working again.

  • Clear fridge and obvious leftovers
  • Reset kitchen surfaces
  • Deal with laundry, towels and guest bedding
  • Remove packaging and recycling
  • Put displaced everyday objects home
  • Clear desktop, Downloads and stale browser tabs

Check: look once, calmly

Look at the money and the dates once, without penance.

  • Review December transactions
  • Check pending refunds and returns
  • Note subscriptions and renewals due soon
  • Check January cash reality
  • Check important dates already known

Book: future-you will be pleased

Secure the things that book out or have a deadline.

  • Necessary appointments
  • Travel already intended
  • Restaurants and experiences that book out
  • Tickets for one winter plan
  • Anything with a real deadline

Plan: January, February and March

Give the next three months a shape.

  • Mark work peaks
  • Add birthdays and commitments
  • Add travel and preparation dates
  • Protect buffer around busy weeks
  • Add one home or admin moment if needed

Look forward to: put something lovely back

Three things that make winter worth leaving the house for. Write them on the sheet.

Not this January

Make space by letting a few things wait. Use the four blank lines on the printable for whatever can stay where it is until spring.
